Application of Poststack Migration Deconvolution to 3D Data

Abstract

Poststack migration deconvolution (MD) was applied to 3D migrated images. The results show that migration deconvolution is able to noticeably improve resolution, attenuate migration noise and correct the distortion in migration amplitudes. The tests show that the migration deconvolution algorithm is suitable not only for Kirchhoff migration, but also for reverse time migration. Comparisons between MD and conventional wavelet deconvolution process ing show that the MD results are noticeably better in improving the spatial resolution of migrated data. Our results suggest that MD is an effective post migration processing method and may be a compelling alternative to some others that rely on statistical correlation of noise and ad hoc choices of parameters. The next step will be to develop and test the 3D prestack MD algorithm.
